We live Tourism
Leisure time has become a precious commodity for many people, including us.
Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group (FMTG) is now one of the leading providers and developers of tourism products and services in Central Europe. This includes everything from hotel development, planning, implementation and management to advice in the field of tourism property development, advice about management and marketing for hotels and investors, and international market observation and assessment.
At the moment (as of the end of 2009), the Group has over 1,300 employees from 13 different countries. FMTG’s entire portfolio consists of over 40 companies from all areas of the tourism industry. The most prominent of these are without a doubt the 21 hotels and two residences currently operating in five European countries (Austria, South Tyrol/Italy, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Croatia). The hotels belonging to this all-round tourism provider are divided into strategic product lines: family hotels, wellness hotels and city hotels.
Since the founding of Falkensteiner Hotels (now Falkensteiner Hotels & Residences, an important part of FMTG) as a family-run company with a small hotel in Ehrenburg, South Tyrol, in 1957, the company has seen rapid development.
There are now three pillars that make up the foundation of FMTG: the Falkensteiner Hotels & Residences mentioned before, the project development and consultation company Michaeler & Partner (founded in 1995) and FMTG Development, which provides professional project management during construction for the Falkensteiner Hotels & Residences.
The company generates turnover of nearly EUR 75 million (end of 2008), and with more than 3,300 rooms (as of the end of 2009), it provides over 1.4 million guests a year from around the world with the opportunity to spend their holidays, relax and recuperate in premium four-star, four-star superior and five-star hotels.
The company’s management is located in the head office in the Austrian capital of Vienna. The Management Board consists of Erich Falkensteiner (CEO), Otmar Michaeler (CEO), Claudia Beermann (CFO) and Dr. Alexander Rössler (COO). They receive support from Hotel Management, Marketing & PR, Development and Michaeler & Partner.

The most important changes that occurred within FMTG in 2009:
- Acquapura SPA – The Falkensteiner wellness philosophy was introduced as an obligatory part of all of the Falkensteiner wellness hotels in 2009: the Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Carinzia (Hermagor, Austria), the Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Bleibergerhof (near Villach, Austria), the Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Bad Leonfelden (Upper Austria, Austria), the Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Bad Waltersdorf (Styria, Austria) and the Falkensteiner Grand Spa Marienbad (Mariánské Lázně, Czech Republic). Our philosophy is based on a high standard of quality in the cosmetics used at the hotels and the treatments offered.
- PREMIUM LIVING by Falkensteiner®– This refers to Falkensteiner’s special version of what is known in the US as “serviced living” – offering owners of a tourism property a variety of services performed by the adjacent Falkensteiner hotel. This can include everything from preparing apartments for visits to repair work, hiring a professional chef and organising childcare.
- Falkensteiner Residences edel:weiss and Punta Skala – Both residences were opened and apartments went on sale in 2009. The Residences edel:weiss are two apartment towers featuring exceptional architecture located in Carinthia’s Katschberg region (at the border between the provinces of Carinthia and Salzburg). They were designed by Italian star architect Matteo Thun. Punta Skala is a peninsula near Zadar, Croatia. The resort there houses a total of 187 Senia luxury apartments designed by the world-renowned architect Boris Podrecca and his team.
- New openings in 2009 – The city hotel in Bratislava (162 rooms, in an excellent location in the city, with outstanding cuisine), the Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Bad Waltersdorf (128 rooms, wellness and spa area spanning more than 2,300 sq m, 30 m from the nearest 18-hole golf course), the Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Bad Leonfelden (117 rooms, spa and wellness area spanning more than 2,000 sq m, conference rooms in an optimal location in Upper Austria) and the Falkensteiner Family Hotel Diadora in Punta Skala (250 Family Suites located directly by the sea, children’s world spanning more than 800 sq m, wellness and spa area spanning more than 2,000 sq m).
- New management in 2009 – Falkensteiner Hotel Therapia in Crkvenica, Croatia. Art nouveau hotel with 109 rooms, exquisite cuisine and its own access to the sea.
